2nd and 3rd Graders Compose!

Over the past few classes, the second and third graders have been composing a song with a group!  They first learned about musical form, or the way a piece of music is set up.  We danced to a song called "Caimarusa" and discovered this song is in AB form, which means it has two main themes that alternate back and forth.  After that, in groups, the students composed two different rhythms, added solfege to the rhythms, and wrote the notes on a musical staff.  The next step is to bring their music to life and sing or play it on the instruments!

I am the music teacher at Bristol Grade School and Yorkville Grade School teaching kindergarten through third grade students.  It's such a fun and rewarding job!
