Students in third grade recently learned the Russian dance, "Sasha." In addition to learning some new dance moves, they were able to further internalize steady beat, understand musical form, and learn to count to three in Russian! Raz, dva, tre! We had a great time switching partners and moving around the room in this high energy dance! Hey!
Students in second grade read The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything and arranged a sound story to go with it. They worked with a partner to find the best instrument match for each character in the book. After we shared our ideas with another group, we planned a class performance. It turned out great!
Adding music the literature helps students with comprehension and listening skills. They have to listen extra closely so they don't miss their special part! Composing and arranging allows students to create something unique and original and really take ownership of their music education! Below is the lyrics sheet for our second and third grade musical, "Paint the Town December." Feel free to print it and use it at home to practice with your child. It will help reinforce what we've been working on in class and give you a little preview of our show!
Save the date for our second and third grade musical! We are starting work on our lines and songs this week, and the kids are very excited!
