Click the file for a document containing all the lyrics for the Kindergarten and First grade concert! I've also added recordings of three of our group songs. Thank you for your help preparing your student for a great show!
The kindergarten and first grade students are working hard to prepare for their concert, "Around the Campfire" in April.
YGS K/1 students will have their concert on April 14th at 7pm in the YMS Auditorium. BGS K/1 students will have their concert on April 21st at 7pm in the ACES Gym. Here's a picture from one of our rehearsals! Come to the show and see what this is about! Here is the link to the website we talked about this week in 3rd grade music! Enjoy!
http://www.dsokids.com The kindergartners have been working on clapping simple rhythms using familiar words. They learned that the work 'pizza' has two syllables or two sounds. 'Pan' has one syllable or one sound. They worked on creating patterns using these two words and shared them with the class. Soon, they will connect these rhythms to eighth notes and quarter notes. In the picture below, you'll see some kindergartners sharing a rhythm they created with the class!
Over the past few classes, the second and third graders have been composing a song with a group! They first learned about musical form, or the way a piece of music is set up. We danced to a song called "Caimarusa" and discovered this song is in AB form, which means it has two main themes that alternate back and forth. After that, in groups, the students composed two different rhythms, added solfege to the rhythms, and wrote the notes on a musical staff. The next step is to bring their music to life and sing or play it on the instruments!
Congratulations to the 2nd and 3rd graders at BGS and YGS on two fantastic concerts this week! I was so proud of all their hard work and dedication to making their performances the best they could be. The sang beautifully, and everyone loved the holiday story we told. Great work!
If you have any pictures or video you'd like to share from the concert, please email them to me! [email protected] Enjoy the last week before break, and have a wonderful holiday season! Below is the script for "Paint the Town December." There were a few students with speaking parts asking for it! Happy Practicing!
We've made some edits to our musical lyrics. The updated version is posted below. I have also recorded the kids singing their concert songs and put them on my SoundCloud account so feel free to play them while you student practices at home! Thanks again for all of your help at home to make this concert a success!
Students in third grade recently learned the Russian dance, "Sasha." In addition to learning some new dance moves, they were able to further internalize steady beat, understand musical form, and learn to count to three in Russian! Raz, dva, tre! We had a great time switching partners and moving around the room in this high energy dance! Hey!
